THE STARTING POINT
When his inquiry came through, one sentence immediately stood out to me.
He wanted a ring that felt "sleek, stylish, but not oversized."
He was planning a surprise proposal for his boyfriend, and I loved that he already had a strong sense of the feeling he was after without being attached to one specific design. He knew he was drawn to green gemstones, liked the idea of subtle accent stones, and wanted something that felt personal instead of traditional.
Those are some of my favorite projects because they leave room to discover things together.
We started by looking at different green gemstones, but the moment I found this parti sapphire, I had a feeling we'd found the heart of the ring. It had so much movement and personality on its own that the rest of the design became less about adding and more about supporting what was already there.
From that point on, every decision - the pear diamonds, the asymmetry, even the prong placement - was about letting the sapphire do what it already did so well.

DESIGN NOTE
Once we found the sapphire, I knew the rest of the ring would come together. The real design work became figuring out what belonged beside it.
We explored quite a few side stone combinations - different shapes, different layouts, even different gemstone colors. Every option changed the personality of the ring a little. But we kept coming back to the pear diamonds. They added just enough playfulness and movement while still letting the sapphire stay at the center of the story.
One detail I especially love is something most people probably won't notice at first. We spent time refining the orientation of the pear diamonds and even where the prongs would sit. Those little adjustments completely changed the composition. Instead of looking like three separate stones, the ring started to feel like one flowing design.
Those are the kinds of decisions I love making. They're subtle, but they're often what make a ring feel effortless instead of simply well made.
