THE GOAL
This one was a really fun one from the start. He was designing a surprise engagement ring for his boyfriend and had a pretty clear feeling for what he wanted right away - something sleek, stylish, gold, and not too flashy. He wanted it to feel special and romantic, but still clean, modern, and a little unexpected. At that point the center stone direction was still pretty open. He was drawn to green, was considering an emerald or another green stone, and liked the idea of smaller accent stones if they made sense.
What I liked right away was that he had a lot of ideas, but in a good way. It didn’t feel rigid or overplanned - more like he had a strong instinct for the feeling he was after and was excited to figure out the details together. That’s usually where the fun is.

THE DESIGN STORY
A lot of this one came together through really fun back-and-forth. We talked about asymmetry, side stones, curve, color, and how to make the ring feel a little different without pushing it too far. He wanted it to have personality, but still feel clean, wearable, and easy.
One of my favorite parts of this project is that he didn’t come in specifically asking for a green parti sapphire. That came out of the process. We started from a broader green-stone direction, looked at different possibilities, and slowly landed on the parti sapphire because it had so much life and personality without feeling too loud. Once that stone and the pear side stones came together, everything started to click.
From there it became about refining the setting - getting the proportions right, making sure the asymmetry felt intentional, and keeping the whole thing balanced. That’s one of the things I love most about custom. Sometimes the best version of a piece isn’t the one someone names at the beginning - it’s the one you end up finding by talking it through a little more.
DESIGN NOTE
One of my favorite things about this ring is that it has a lot of personality without feeling overdone. The sapphire brings so much life, the pear side stones add movement, and the asymmetry gives it a clear point of view. But the clean lines are what keep it feeling easy and wearable. That kind of balance is usually what makes a piece really good.
WHAT MADE THIS PROJECT UNIQUE
This one had such a good mix of personal direction, playful back-and-forth, and really thoughtful design decisions - especially in figuring out how to make the ring feel special, stylish, and romantic while still keeping the overall look clean and easy.
An engagement ring with a different feel
He was designing an engagement-style ring for his male partner, and a big part of the conversation was how to make it feel romantic and distinctive without leaning too traditional like a typical men's ring.
The stone came out of the process
The final center stone direction wasn’t really the starting point. We got there by talking through the options and landing on the version that felt the most alive and the most like the ring.
A really fun back-and-forth
He came in with a lot of ideas and a really good instinct for what he liked, and the design came together through talking it all through - refining, adjusting, and finding the version that felt the most like itself.

THE FINISHED PIECE
The finished ring feels personal, a little unexpected, and really captivating. A big part of that comes from the center stone itself. The green parti sapphire has this incredible color blocking that gives the ring so much life and personality - it catches your eye right away and keeps feeling interesting the longer you look at it.
That stone really set the tone for the whole piece. The asymmetry, the pear side stones, and the overall balance of the ring all came together around its color and character. It feels clean and easy on the hand, but still has a really distinct point of view. One of those rings that feels special immediately, and then even better the more time you spend with it.
Every custom piece begins differently. Sometimes it starts with a folder full of inspiration, and sometimes it starts with a feeling. However it begins, we’ll figure it out together.
