Oval Diamond Wave Solitaire

THE STARTING POINT
Every custom project starts somewhere a little differently.
This one began with a client who already had a strong vision. She wanted a flowing yellow gold band with an oval diamond - something timeless and feminine, but with enough personality to feel unmistakably her own. She described it as elegant with a little rock n' roll, which immediately felt like a fun design challenge.
As a musician who spends a lot of time performing, she wanted a ring that would stand out naturally without relying on sheer size. It needed to catch the light, have movement, and feel beautiful from every angle. Rather than making the diamond larger, we focused on creating impact through proportion, negative space, and the contour of the band itself.
We explored several oval diamonds together, comparing salt & pepper and lab-grown options while refining the wave of the band through multiple CAD iterations. Every adjustment made the ring feel lighter, more fluid, and more resolved. That's one of my favorite parts of custom design - watching a good idea slowly become the right one.
The process being this special adds to the whimsy of all of it!
DESIGN NOTE
One of my favorite things about this ring is that its presence comes almost entirely from its shape. The flowing band uses more of the finger than a traditional solitaire, giving the design a bold feeling without making it bulky. Opening up the space around the diamond and softening the curves made all the difference. Those subtle adjustments are what give the finished ring its sense of movement.
It's a good reminder that thoughtful proportion almost always creates more impact than simply making everything bigger.
THINKING ABOUT A CUSTOM PIECE?
Some clients come to me with a family stone.
Some have pages of inspiration.
Some simply know how they want their ring to feel.
However you're starting, we'll figure it out together.
